Getting rich is something many of us daydream about. We fantasize about what life would be like if money was no obstacle and there was limitless supply. But that's usually where the contemplation ends. Daydreaming.

The unfortunate truth is that many of us were never taught the habits, methods and techniques for us to become wealthy people. Quite simply, formal education doesn't provide the skills that kids and young adults need to learn wealth building and achieve financial freedom as adults. Most adults lack the basic foundation for building wealth, and are ignorant of actionable steps that will help them to succeed financially.

As a result, many people believe that financial wealth is unattainable for them. To think in terms of attaining wealth is considered foolish; a waste of time and resources, because regular people don't become wealthy.

I believe differently. I believe that most anyone has the potential to make money and build wealth, given the right knowledge and tools and having the belief and desire to do so. If you're interested in becoming wealthy, here are some simple ideas for places to start.

1. Find somebody who's rich and follow their examples. If you don't personally know any rich people, do some research. Forbes, Fortune, and Black Enterprise magazines provide excellent information resources by and about rich people. Look for stories about people (both "born into" their wealth and those that have personally acquired wealth), and then research them. Answer basic questions like:

• How did they get rich?
• What are their attitudes about money?
• How do they accumulate money?
• How do they invest their money?
• How do they spend their money?
• How do they give their money?

Find the similarities between yourself and the wealthy individuals you find, but more importantly note the differences. How do these individuals relate differently to money than do you, and how are those differences causing them to attract and increase their wealth?

2. Prepare yourself to be rich.

1. Learning about money management and how to keep more of what you have or receive.

2. Finding a system for organizing your money and money-related matters (a budget system and estate planning).

3. And last, find out about getting the money that you have to work for you (as opposed to the other way around).

3. Find your passion.

I've discussed this in several other articles, but it's a very important concept to grasp in terms of your success. Find what you love, and then find a way to do it in terms of a profitable business. Basing your business (or in this case your wealth) on something you're passionate about, naturally propels you forward in your quest to be rich. Passion affords you many attributes including focus, patience, persistence, audacity and endurance, all of which you'll need in your endeavors.

4. Find a system or business to "plug into" (use as a catalyst or tool).

Once you've decided what type of business to go into, you need to find a successful system or business model to use so that basically you can “plug in” your business and then watch it take off. There are successful business systems which are not dependent on the type of business enterprise. So, as long as you follow the steps or parameters of the system, you will be successful.

5. Hang around "like-minded" people.

If you want to be successful, you have to hang around successful people. If you want to be rich, you need to begin hanging around people that are either rich or are on their way to becoming so. Surrounding yourself with people who are not knowledgeable of, interested in or supportive of your efforts to be rich, will not improve your chances of becoming so.

You know the old saying "Fake it 'till you make it"? It's not encouraging you to be unauthentic or deceitful about who you are, so much as it is meant to encourage you to take on the attributes of who you want to be. If you want to be a rich person, you have to shed the old thought processes and bad habits of being a poor or unsuccessful one.
